Supporting AADSA Member Organisations

AADSA often receives a wide range of requests from individuals and groups who wish to support our work in various capacities. While we greatly appreciate this generosity and the desire to make a positive impact, it’s important to note that, as an umbrella organization, our role is different from that of individual organizations who specialize in the training and provision of assistance dogs. We do not train or provide assistance dogs ourselves, nor do we raise funds specifically for this purpose. Additionally, we are unable to provide speakers for events or arrange visits to various gatherings.

When we do receive thoughtful offers of support, we always encourage individuals to connect directly with one of our member organizations. These groups are equipped to accept donations, offer volunteering opportunities, or provide other ways for you to contribute to the cause. We’ve provided more detailed information about how you can get in touch with these organizations below. Your interest in supporting this vital work is truly appreciated, and we believe that by connecting with the right channels, you can have the most meaningful impact.

Making a financial donation

We are deeply grateful for any and all donations we receive, as they play a crucial role in supporting our ongoing efforts. However, we would like to clarify that AADSA does not directly train or provide assistance dogs. Instead, the donations we receive are dedicated to supporting the essential work of our members. This includes activities such as raising awareness about the benefits and importance of assistance dogs, as well as facilitating collaboration and connection among our members. These efforts are fundamental to advancing the understanding and impact of assistance dogs in our communities.

If you are interested in making a donation specifically to support the training or provision of assistance dogs, we encourage you to visit our member page. On this page, you will find detailed information about each of our members, including the types of assistance dogs they train and the specific services they offer. From there, you can follow links to their individual websites or directly reach out to them to inquire about donation opportunities and how your contribution can help in their mission to train and provide assistance dogs. Your support is vital in ensuring that these organizations can continue their important work, and we truly appreciate your generosity.

Puppy/dog donation

Several of our members would be grateful to receive puppy donations from a litter, if possible. Please visit our member page to choose the organization you’d like to donate to and reach out to them directly.

Rehoming retired and unqualified dogs

Each organization that is a member of AADSA follows its own unique process for rehoming retired assistance dogs. In addition to retired dogs, some members may also have a small number of unqualified dogs that are available for rehoming. It’s important to understand that these dogs were not able to become assistance dogs for specific reasons, which may include behavioral challenges or health-related issues. These factors are what prevent them from meeting the high standards required for assistance dog work.

If you’re interested in learning more about rehoming one of these dogs, you will need to get in touch directly with the AADSA member organizations. You can find the appropriate contact details for each member on the member page, and they will be able to provide you with further information on their individual rehoming processes.

Requesting a speaker

AADSA members are spread across various regions throughout South Africa. If you are looking for a speaker to attend your group meeting or event, we encourage you to explore the list of our members and identify those who are closest to your location. You can then reach out to them directly to inquire about availability and booking. Many of our members have the ability to travel beyond their immediate areas, offering speaking engagements across a much larger geographic range within South Africa. Additionally, several members are equipped to provide virtual or online presentations, making it even easier to connect with speakers no matter where you are based.

If you’re interested in inviting a speaker to your meeting, event, or function, simply visit our member page. There, you’ll find a list of all our members, and you can contact the speaker(s) that best suit your needs and preferences. Whether you are looking for someone local or a speaker who can deliver an online presentation, we’re confident you’ll find the perfect match for your event.
